Fresh and forward, lively red fruit backed by good depth.
Merlot 70%, Cabernet Sauvignon 25%, Cabernet Franc 5%
Lots of Merlot here gives the wine that soft, plummy character. You can accentuate this character by fermenting in stainless steel which keeps the fresh, pure fruit flavour by not messing with oak chips, staves or barrels.
The grapes from which this wine is made have been sourced from lots of different parcels throughout the larger Bordeaux appellation which is an extremely common practice even with the most famous estate, albeit from within individual appellations. Historically some Bordeaux was beefed up with a bit of Syrah from Hermitage! In fact, Chateau Palmer (third growth Margaux estate) revived this practice recently with a non-vintage blend of grapes from Margaux with 15-20% of Rhone valley Syrah chucked in!
