The Dark box is always something I look forward to making every year. It’s the perfect time of the year to start indulging on darker beers, their warm embrace makes the colder nights more bearable.
Each box contains two of the following:
Pilot - Mochaccino Stout - Winner of the prestigious Bow Bar Dark Beer Challenge. With lots of luxury ingredients, this coffee, chocolate and vanilla stout is a comforting change to the usual dry stouts. I’ve spent many a night with this and sometimes even treat myself to a chilled version in the summer in lieu of ice cream.
Magic Rock - Common Grounds - Seven different malts, seven different coffees. This brings out the best in each ingredient since they are added at 3 different points of the brew. It’s rich, toffee and with a lot of chocolate depth. Finishing with vanilla and hazelnut to create a well robust porter.
Black Isle - Porter - Slightly more traditional but without the faff. There’s not too much straying from the norm here, but they’ve really captured the style. Stunning ruby colour with a scent of coffee on the nose. Your tongue will be greeted with a touch of liquorice and a bit of bitterness before a nice roasted malt finish.
Fierce - Cafe Racer - Another sweet porter, but one that holds a special memory for me. Having improved year upon year, Fierce takes this porter to the next level every time I've had it. The sweetness is slightly more subtle than Pilot’s version, but both the coffee and vanilla add an extra bit of depth to an already great beer.
Tempest - Elemental Porter - Quickly becoming a shop favourite, Tempest have managed to make this core beer shine. Rich and nutty with a touch of oak and chocolate, Elemental Porter can be enjoyed in or outside. We recommend near a hearth either way though.
Six Degrees North - Copper Sout - The new and improved Chopper. The abv’s been dropped to allow for a more sessionable dark beer. Don’t worry, it’s still a malty treat that any dark beer lover can get behind.
