Description
HAUTVILLERS. Gobillard Chardonnay is a full, fine, rich and extremely tasty style of Champagne. Only made in top vintages with a minimum of 8 years on the lees and some time in oak barrels. Thierry Gobillard’s favourite wine. Nuff said.
Located near the village of Hautvilliers in the Vallée de la Marne which is listed as a a UNESCO World Heritage. The Abbaye Saint-Pierre d’Hautvillers is the site of the grave of monk Dom Pérignon, an 18th-century pioneer of the champagne-making process. As such, the Gobillard vines are side by side with Premier Cru land used for Dom Perignon. Gobillard itself is a 4th generation family “grower Champagne” (i.e. they only use their own grapes unlike all of the large houses who buy in). An average of 40% of the price you pay for any Grand Marque Champagne (e.g. Moet/Veuve Clicquot/Bollinger) goes toward their marketing budget. Thus the price paid for a grower Champagne is going much further for the quality of grapes.
