Description

A bright and medium intense Tempranillo and Garnacha blend. Complex array of aromas on the nose, with notes of red fruits and liquorice and subtle hints of toast, spices and cinnamon. Silky, pleasant and enveloping on the palate, long, balanced, with very good tannins.

Rioja Vega

Founded in 1882 in Haro , Rioja Vega originally started as Bodegas Felipe Ugalde. By 1921 it had officially become Rioja Vega, an estate based on the Chateau model of Bordeaux, surrounded by vineyards in Venta Jalon near Logrono. In 1983 it was bought by Principe de Viana who invested heavily in the vineyards and winery itself enabling them to concentrate on the quality of their wines. They even have their onw cooperage

VITICULTURE

This wine comes from vineyards over 20 years old. The planting of our vineyards was made following quality criteria, seeking low yields and small-berry bunches. Therefore, the density of plantation is very high (4,000 plants per hectare, according to a plantation frame of 2.5 x 1 metre), low-vigour grafting, Guyot training for higher vegetation, trickle irrigation managed in order to guarantee a good harvest with a certain hydric stress for higher quality grapes.

WINEMAKING PROCESS

Alcoholic fermentation for 6 days at 28ºC. Maceration in contact with the skin for 5 days . After devatting, malolactic fermentation took place.

12-month ageing in American oak barrels followed by a years bottle age
