Description

Effectively a Barolo but with an Australian accent, the Trentham Nebbiolo 2021 is spicy and savoury with a grippy finish. Plenty of plums, earthy notes, red berry fruit with hints of strawberry. 12 months in oak. Light looking, but looks lie in this case. Amazing stuff.

Trentham have been operating since 1988 in Big River, from small beginnings to now running a state-of-the-art winery working with premium grapes. The winemaking ethos is flexible, and they’re happy to experiment with lesser spotted grapes in Australia, such as Nebbiolo or Fiano.

Additional information

Trentham Estate

The Murphy family arrived in Australia in 1909 from Ireland and so are numbered among the Irish ‘Winegeese’ who, from the 18th century onwards, engaged in the wine trade in the countries of their adoption and were instrumental in the viticultural development of some of the finest wine-growing areas of the world. Today the many and illustrious wines and labels of the Winegeese have become synonymous with quality on the international market.

The winemaking philosophy at Trentham Estate has always been to produce high-quality varietal wines with an emphasis on full fruit flavour while offering fantastic value for money right across the range. On trend with varietal plantings and never shy to try the untried, they recently achieved a 5* winery rating from James Halliday; the very first estate in the region to do so.

Production

he grapes were crushed, de-stemmed and transferred into tank where they were inoculated with yeast. Fermented over an eight-day period with regular pumpovers to maintain a consistent temperature and to aid colour and tannin extraction from the skins. After pressing, a portion of the wine was matured in French oak barrels.
