Saison

Saison (French for Season) is a pale ale that is highly carbonated, fruity, spicy and often bottle conditioned. Historically brewed at lower levels of alcohol, but modern producation has seen the rise of higher abvs.

As a style, the saison was brewed in the cooler, less active months in farmhouses across Belgium and stored for drinking during the summer. These farmhouse beers were around 3.5% and were served as a clean source for seasonal farm workers (apparently up to five liters a day). on a side note; Grizzette was the grey beer, not due to its colour, but rather as it was brewed for miner workers and today is brewed closer to traditional saisions.

These funky beers have carried on through the ages and Men’s Journal published an article proclaiming Du Point to be the “Best in the World” back in 2005.

Expect to taste a fruity, funky and slightly spicy beer that has seen a lot of variance.
