Trappist

Trappist beers are brewed to this day by the monasteries – six in Belgium, two in the Netherlands, and one each in Austira, Italy, the US and the UK. The practice orgininated from the Cistercian monastery of La Trappe, where beer was brewed as a self supporting way for monks to raise funds and it was also much cleaner than the water in the surrounding areas. This practice has contiuned and the monasteries brew beer to raise money for charitable causes.

Many Trappist Monasteries and breweries have been destroyed during revolutions and World Wars, which has led to the Trappist brewers taking great pride in their hertiable act. The Authentic logal is internationally renowned to symbolise these practices and strict guidelines still have to be followed to attain accreditation.

Expect a similar story to Abbey ales, the monks brew what they fancy but most are strong ales that are sweet and rich in flavour.
